Learn effective teaching methods to educate about tobacco
What is one of the best ways to keep people from using tobacco? Education, of course :)
San Jose is fortunate to have a number of after-school programs to support the needs of the city's youth. Program facilitators work with students throughout the city, tutoring, playing games, and mentoring.
After-school programs are a great place for students to learn about important life topics, including health and safety. However, while the facilitators may have good intentions, many are young and may not be experienced or knowledgeable enough to teach a subject effectively. One such topic may be tobacco, which is a wide topic with many aspects that may affect a youth.
The World Wide Web provides a number of resources that may aid after-school program staff. One such website is Tobacco-Free San Jose, which features several pages that staff may refer to for:
- Background information about tobacco, its uses, and its effects;
- Lessons and activities for different age groups;
- Links to different local, state, and national resources; and
- A forum for users and guests to add to the content of the website.
Effective education is a team effort, and making a different in the life of a youth may require help from others. Feel free to leave comments on this Hub with feedback on the website or additional information. Thanks!

- Aromatherapy Baths
Most people do not realize how strongly we are affected by scents, but scents can trigger all sorts of memories. I enjoy using essential oils in a bath because in a warm bath the vapours of essential oils are inhaled and the oils are absorbed through the skin. To make therapeutic baths choose fragrances that appeal to you, scents that evoke warm memories. - 22 months ago

I like their logo... and regarding this hub, it is really well written.
Nice Hub, Great idea but do you honestly think it will work ?
Over here in the UK the Government has spent a fortune trying to educate the various generations on the dangers of smoking, drug and alcohol abuse and it hasn't made the least bit of difference.
The Nanny State we have has come up with idea after idea, adding cost upon cost making the costs for normal people prohibitive in the shops but has completely failed to make the slightest bit of difference to the binge drinking, smoking moronic youth of today.
Simply telling kids that fire is Hot is not enough, 9 out of 10 are still going to touch it to find out.
Same with smoking, drinking and in many cases drugs; did you listen to your parents, teachers and Government adverts ?
I have no idea what the answer is but we need to find a better way to get the message across.
I'm trying to think back to when I was in high school in the early Sixties. The talk about cancer was just beginning to the point that cigarettes were called coffin nails and cancer sticks, but it did not deter me from becoming a smoker. Wow! Waking up in the morning with a smokers cough at age 23 or 24 got me to quit cigarettes, but I continued with a pipe and cigars!! When I was licensed as psychotherapist, I was 37, I thought it looked ridiculous for someone who is promoting health to be smoking anything and I finally quit. I consider myself intelligent at those ages! even though my smoking behavior defied that thought!
My son is in the last stages of publishing a book on "How To Stop Smoking Without Killing Anyone." He highlights how COOL it is to smoke and how smoking makes kids FEEL COOL. So it is a challenge to get through the impermeable I'm not going to die and I want to be cool armor. We all have to keep putting our heads together to come up with more successful plans to motivate kids to NOT smoke in the first place or the quit if they are already into the "cool" thing. So you have some helpful information here to get us started.

Very nice hub - education is definitely the first step towards reducing risky behaviors like smoking. Thumbs up!
Fully agree with you about the potential of education :-)
A great hub. Nice topic, nice words and nice title. Cheers.
great article.
I know to well that many teenagers are addicted to this "tar thing". I thoroughly enjoyed this post and thanks for your comment on mine! I will check out Tobacco-Free San Jose!
This is a very useful hub. A lot of young people start smoking at a young age and it's a real sad thing to see.
excellent hub. . . again. sat next to this fellow on a plane ride to reno: peter nez (http://www.bhcaih.org/). check out their web page. right up your alley. good luck.
So glad that you wrote a hub on this subject. An extremely important and worthwhile topic. Well written and I thank you.
Effective education is a team effort. Smokers tend to come from younger age groups by the day, and I echo the sentiment of those who don't want to see this negative trend go on. Thanks for bringing this vital news to our notice. I'll definitely do my part and spread the love. More power to such imperative and worthwhile topics. :)
really good hub glassvisage , the idea to educate the youth for not having tobacco is really a nice idea for not having dangerous diseases in future.
You've shared some really valuable information and resources about how educators can create and implement an anti-smoking program in their school. I'm going to add a link to this hub from my "Should Smoking be Banned Indoors and Outdoors?" hub.
Great Hub, very useful info
